After viewing our ad in a local coupon book, this homeowner contacted us. They had been suffering from rodent issues for years. They would call out pest control, lay our traps, and these than had to be cleared and replaced as needed. Tired of having to deal with this, the owners were in search of a way to deter the rodents from even entering the crawl space. So they contacted John's Waterproofing and scheduled their free inspection, during which we did a full crawl under the home, and than sat with the owners to go over a solution. 

To begin we pulled out the old vapor barrier and debris. We than installed a drain system on the inside of the crawl space and sump pump. These will keep the space dry against water issues. We then installed TerraBlock insulation over the dirt floor. This helps to control the environment within the crawl space. Next we brought in CleanSpace, this material is made with a woven fiber through it. This makes the material durable and difficult for any critters to chew through, thus deterring rodents from entering the crawl space. This is installed between the wooden posts and its footings, is anchored and sealed along the foundation walls, and fully sealed along each seam. We than installed a SaniDry dehumidifier, which will keep the relative humidity controlled. We than applied spray foam insulation along the foundation walls, which will insulate and air seal, making it so critters can't just creep through the walls. Now the space is built to deter rodents from entering. 

This basement had the back half of the basement built into the hillside, and the front half was finished and not below-grade. The basement section in the back was unfinished and contained the laundry space, the water heater, and storage racking. As the years proceeded the homeowners felt the space become more musty and damp. With the finished section so close, they were becoming more concerned about water damage creeping through the home to cause problems. To address this, the owners contacted John's Waterproofing to receive their free inspection. 

For a real solution we began by digging a trench along the three below-grade walls. We dug the trench, laid in gravel, and our WaterGuard drain system. This will collect the water and send it all along to the lowest point in the room. Here we installed a TripleSafe sump pump to pump the water safely through a discharge line and away from the home. For the walls, we than installed our CleanSpace wall system. This is a vapor barrier that is 20 mil thick. It will safely guide water and moisture down the wall to be collected in the WaterGuard. We than installed a SaniDry dehumidifier to ensure the air within the space is kept at a healthy relative humidity. 

When water was puddling around the home and making the lawn a mess, this homeowner decided they wanted to do something about it. They contacted John's Waterproofing and scheduled their free inspection. We sent out a design specialist who did a full crawl through of the crawl space and walked around the exterior of the house. It was evident that the crawl space was taking on water, primarily where the downspouts were placed. Each downspout was only a few inches long, dumping the roof water right next to the homes foundation. This excess water pressure was an issue. To address the problem and work with the owners budget we worked on a repair plan. 

To begin we worked on the down spout. Each down spout was extended into the ground and we installed underground pipes to take the water a safe distance away from the home. This keeps that roof water from dumping where it can re-enter under the home. We than crawled under the home and removed the old vapor barrier and debris. Next we installed a full interior drain system with a SuperSump Plus. These will work to collect ground water and channel them to the lowest point. From here the water is pumped away from the home. We than laid down a new 6 Mil vapor barrier, overlapping the edges and running these up the walls to help keep the space dry, stable, and healthy.
