Job Stories From Clatskanie, OR
Water Damage in Crawlspace - Clatskanie, OR

Continuous water exposure in a crawlspace leads to many issues. This space was experiencing a moldy smell in their home and bouncy floors from rotting posts. To get this home back on track to being dry and healthy, the homeowners called up John's Waterproofing. We had a design specialist out to do a full inspection, and in the end they suggested Mold treatment, post replacement, and a full encapsulation to get this home taken care of.

To begin our crew arrived and had to clear the space out. We pulled out the old vapor barrier, debris, and moldy fiberglass insulation. We then had to replaced ten wooden posts with our SmartJacks. These will re-stabilize the home and end the bouncing floors. With the place stable and the fiberglass removed we applied Mold X2 as needed. A trench was then dug throughout the crawlspace, here we installed a perforated pipe in a silt sock. Water will be collected in this and graded to a newly installed TripleSafe sump pump at the lowest point of the crawlspace. Water is then pumped out and away from the home. To provide lasting insulation we laid in TerraBlock over the dirt floor. CleanSpace was then brought in, this goes under each post, anchors to the walls, and is sealed into place. We installed a SaniDry dehumidifier to keep the air healthy and applied spray foam to the foundation walls. This space is now dry and healthy, and prepared to last!

Chilly Home and High Energy Bills in Clatskanie, OR

High energy bills and chilly floors, this home was ready for something better. The homeowners heard about how this could be a sign of improper crawlspace insulation, so they called up John's Waterproofing to hear about the best insulation system; crawlspace encapsulation. After talking with a design specialist and getting all of their questions answered, they were ready to move forward!

To begin our crew came out and cleared out the crawlspace. We then installed a SmartSump in the lowest spot. This will collect the groundwater and divert it well away from the home to a LawnScape outlet The floor was then insulated with TerraBlock and the foundation walls with SilverGlo. We then sealed up the vents and brought in CleanSpace. CleanSpace is inserted under each wooden post, anchored along the walls and sealed into place with a special waterproof, four inch wide tape. This home is now properly insulated, and the home is set up for lower energy costs!

Downspouts Bring Mud into Crawlspace - Clatskanie, OR

Homes on a hillside can be problematic and bring water to the foundation. This homeowner had their crawlspace waterproofed from the exterior in preparation for the water they knew was present. However, for their crawlspace entryway, they just rested a plywood board against the opening. While the homeowners imagined this would be okay, heavy rains brought excess water and mud down the hillside, and into the crawlspace. The crawlspace entryway was clogged up with mud and the downspouts were just adding excess water all around the foundation. To address this, the homeowners called up John's Waterproofing.

To begin helping the homeowners we did a dig out of the space, pulling out about twelve five gallon buckets to make the space accessible. We then installed a proper entryway with a Turtl entrance. This will keep mud and water from flooding into the space. We then extended the four downspouts of the home into the ground. These connect to a pipe system, and direct all collected water safely out and away from the home. We then laid down a simple 6 Mil vapor barrier under the home and the homeowners are thrilled that their home will be prepared for heavy rains when they come again.

New Home for a Loyal Customer - Neotsu, OR

This customer had us encapsulate the crawlspace in her previous home and was so very happy with it that she couldn't wait to get her new home's crawlspace encapsulated as well. A System Designer was sent out to measure, take photos and present her with a proposal that she quickly accepted so the work could get started ASAP.

The crew arrived bright and early one morning and began by addressing the exterior access which was very small; the first order business was to install a Turtl entryway for better access and make it simpler to clear out the debris and then bringing in the products to be installed. Our installers then put in a perforated pipe drainage system which was installed around the perimeter and graded to a TripleSafe sump pump. They then laid down TerraBlock insulation and the vents were sealed up and the posts isolated. The 20mil nylon-reinforced CleanSpace vapor barrier was installed and the seams were sealed up and run up the walls, fastening under the rim joist. To prevent mold and mildew in this space we then installed a SaniDry dehumidifier. Finally, single cell spray foam was applied to the rim joist and foundation walls to bring the insulation to the required R factor for insulating the space. The homeowner was happy to have another clean and healthy home!

Wet Basement Made Dry - Clatskanie, OR

This homeowner contacted John's Waterproofing because of the continual flooding of their basement. The basement was used for storage space, and the continual water intrusion needed to be solved. A System Designer went to the home and walked with the homeowner through the basement and educated them about WaterGuard, an effective and reliable way to solve wet basement problems- permanently! They also discussed various options available for finishing the basement space from semi-finishing products to a full-finished look.

The homeowner wanted a nice space but not necessarily finished so they chose the semi-finished look of BrightWall, a textured plastic wall panel that is mold and mildew proof, lightens and brightens, cleans easily, and, more importantly, drives the wall moisture into the WaterGuard. First, the WaterGuard was installed and this drainage system enabled the water collected to be taken to a SuperSump System. Once completed, the BrightWall was installed.  Lastly, the homeowner chose to add a SaniDry dehumidifier to keep the air dry and filtered from pollen, dust mites and more. Now, this basement is ready to use for safe, dry storage.

Mold Appearing along the floor and Wall Joists - Clatskanie, OR

The home had some water that would show up during the heavy rains along the joists where the wall met the floor in their basement. For a while, the homeowners hadn't thought much about it, it was minor, didn't flood, and was impeding on the space that the family used. However, as the years progressed they began to notice a musty smell, and when they inspected the basement they saw water mold growing along the floor where water would show up. To help, they called in John's Waterproofing.

Our crew began by digging a trench along the interior perimeters and installing a WaterGaurd drainage system. This collected the groundwater and pushed it towards a new TripleSafe Sump pump. From here all water was diverted out and away from the home to a LawnScape outlet. The homeowners also decided they wanted to make their basement a partially finished space so they could begin to use it. To assist with this we installed our Brightwall paneling, which gives a clean, bright, and easy to wash surface that is completely waterproof. We then installed our ThermalDry Wood board flooring which is made of inorganic materials so it will not mold, and is waterproofed as well. This basement is now dry and healthy, no more nasty smells!

High Humidity in Clatskanie, OR

The homeowners had been using their basement as storage space, mostly boxes, but also some old furniture. They began to notice a damp smell imitating from some places in their basement, and after moving some boxes around, they found condensation on parts of the walls and it was damaging the boxes that had been stored there. With the worry of losing that storage space, they called John's Waterproofing, wanting a solution that would allow them continued use of the space.

The install crew began by digging along the interior parameters of the basement, allowing them to lay down a large scale drain system, the WaterGuard XL, that would divert water to the SuperSump Plus sump pump we installed. This would direct all water out and away from the basement. We covered the walls in our Brightwall paneling to keep the moisture from building up along the walls. This solution would create an unfinished basement for the homeowners. Should they ever decide to finish their basement, it will be ready for the work, but as is, it will protect their basement from moisture and water issues. Keeping their home dry and healthy!

Foundation Cracking in Clatskanie, OR

This homeowner called us because after 40 years of living in their home the foundation was beginning to crack and that water was beginning to come into these small cracks down in the crawlspace. Worried about their home's structural integrity, they needed to find a solution. Our inspector completed a thorough inspection and discovered that much of this water came from the slope of their driveway.

Our inspector then suggested to them they install a downspout extension in order to move water further from the foundation of their home. We installed a french drain outside the home within the driveway so that the water could be caught and taken away from the home.

In order to prevent any further damage, our crew filled the small cracks with Xypex and installed a sump pump in the crawlspace in order to collect the water currently in the crawlspace and any of the water that could possibly come in the future.
