When the air in the crawl space is in poor condition, that affects your living space. Over forty percent of the air in your home is coming from below, and this owner complained about damp odors, and that they seemed to be sick more and more often. To see if the crawl space could be an issue, the owners contacted John's Waterproofing and scheduled their free inspection. Once below the home, the design specialist discovered that the old 6 mil vapor barrier had caked on mud overtop, and the space had fiberglass insulation drooping from the sub-floor that was damp. The crawl space was definitely causing negative effects on the homes breathable air. To get control over the situation we began by removing the old vapor barrier, fiberglass and debris. We then installed a drain system to wrap around the interior perimeter. Water collects within this and travels to the lowest point in the space where it enters a new TripleSafe sump pump and is directed away from the homes foundation. Each vent is than sealed shut and we install TerraBlock insulation along the dirt floor. Once this has been fitted into the space we install CleanSpace. This material is anchored along the rim joists, inserted between each wooden post and footing, and sealed along the seams with a special four inch wide waterproof tape. A SaniDry dehumidifier is installed to keep the spaces relative humidity controlled, and we than apply spray foam along the foundation walls. This completes the spaces insulation and air seals the space against exterior elements. With this crawl space controlled, we can keep the home above healthier, and the owner can rest assured this part of their home is cared for.  

Water had been creeping through this homes foundation walls for years. The owners had first tried to use a waterproof paint to address the issue, but after about a year, the paint began to bubble, and than the water cracked through and started up again. They then attempted a waterproof tape on the foundation wall, but the water just appeared around the tape. Done trying these quick DIY options, the owners were ready to use an actual solution for their basement. For this they got into contact with John's Waterproofing and scheduled their free inspection. After our Design Specialist completed their inspection they discussed options and worked to craft a solution. To begin we dug a trench around the interior perimeter of the homes basement. Within this we laid down clean gravel and our WaterGuard drain system. This works to collect moisture from the walls and groundwater from below, channeling it along to the lowest point. From here water enters a TripleSafe sump system and is diverted away from the homes foundation. We than installed drainage for the three below-grade windows that were situated in this space. So when water enters the window well outside, the water can than safely travel through a drain pipe to be collected in the WaterGuard system. We than installed BrightWall paneling along the foundation walls, this provides a semi-finished look for the space, and allows all water to travel between itself and the foundation wall to collect in the drain system as well. The final step on this project is to install a SaniDry dehumidifier. This machine address excess moisture in the air, keeping the areas relative humidity within a healthy range. The owners are thrilled with how the basement feels brighter now, and are glad they have a system in place to work year after year. 

This home had a drain system that was very old, and these pipes ended up clogged by a root system, and now they didn't offer any protection for the home against water. To replace and get their home cared for, they called up John's Waterproofing. To begin helping we did a full inspection beneath the home. Afterwards we removed the old vapor barrier, and debris. Following this we installed a new drain system. This wraps around the interior perimeter of the crawl space and sends water into a TripleSafe sump pump. From here water is pumped away from the homes foundation via a discharge line. A new 6 Mil vapor barrier is than laid throughout the crawl space. To help it last we overlap the edges and run this up the walls to be anchored into place. Now the homes groundwater is once again moving swiftly out and away from the homes foundation and the owners can enjoy peace of mind once again.
