This home had an older sump pump in the crawlspace, installed before the current homeowner purchased the home. After living in the home for a few years, they went under the home to see how it was holding up. They discovered the hold vapor barrier had slide around a bit, leaving damp earth exposed and some mold growth. When they got to the sump pump they saw it was a mess, and there was a pool of water in the nearby corner. They called up John's Waterproofing for some assistance.

The sump pump issue was because the pump had not been placed properly, it should be in the lowest spot, ensuring it collects the groundwater. We installed a full drainage system, a brand new sump pump, TerraBlock Insulation, CleanSpace, a SaniDry dehumidifier and will be adding Spray Foam insulation to the foundation walls as well. This crawlspace is now properly cared for and can remain dry and healthy.

This homes crawlspace had standing water, mud on the old vapor barrier, and falling fiberglass insulation. The homeowner needed to do something to address these issues, but wasn't looking for anything to expensive. To help them keep costs down while setting them up for more waterproofing repairs in the future we set them up with a pipe, pump, and plastic. We removed the old insulation and vapor barrier, and then installed a full drain system, sump pump, and a new 6 mil vapor barrier.

Job Stories From Longview, WA
Sump Pump Systems: Keeping Homes Dry - Longview, WA

This homeowner had doubts about how they could control the passage of water in their crawl space. They lived in an area that experienced heavy rainy seasons and found that water was seeping through the foundation. They decided to have a professional come out and called John's Waterproofing to explain how the sump pump system would be able to efficiently push water out.

In our waterproofing systems, we always install a proper drainage system that will be able to collect water that tries to seep through and send it to a sump pump to be sent out. The drainage system begins with digging a trench along the interior perimeter of the crawl space to lay a perforated pipe. This pipe has holes that allow water to easily filter through and provides a safe passageway to be sent to the SuperSump Plus sump pump. The sump pump is capable of controlling several gallons of water at a time and pumps it out through a discharge line and away from the homes foundation. The SuperSump Plus also comes with a WaterWatch Alarm that alerts the homeowners if anything is wrong before its too late. Without this drainage system, any water seeping through would continue to flood and eventually be absorbed by the homes insulation and wooden posts. At John's Waterproofing, we want to prevent any kind of water damage and in order to ensure that, we make sure homes are ready with our sump pump system.

Water Threatens Basement - Longview, WA

This basement was unfinished, but still set up for gaming. When water was found dripping along one of the walls during heavy rains, the homeowners knew they would need to get a waterproofing system. If water was left to keep intruding, there could be some issues. To address the problem, John's Waterproofing was called up. A full inspection was performed, and a waterproofing solution was settled on.

To begin our work, the crew dug a trench around the interior perimeter. Here we would install a drainage system that consists of a bed of gravel and our WaterGuard drainage system. This will collect water and send it along to a newly installed SuperSump Plus at the lowest point, and then discharged away from the home to a LawnScape outlet. One of the windows was upgraded to a full egress window that could be used in an emergency since the basement was regularly being used. The walls were then covered with our BrightWall paneling. These send wall moisture safely to the WaterGuard system, and will not mold or mildew. As a final step we installed a SaniDry dehumidifier to keep the space healthy.

Settling Home and Wooden Posts no Longer Support the Home - Longview, WA

This home had settled, and had caused some of the wooden posts to shift. Three of the posts no longer sat properly on their footing, and the home's floor was warped a bit because of this. They wanted to protect their home, so they called up John's Waterproofing for some structural repair and some general preventative waterproofing.

To begin, our crew pulled out the general debris from under the home. We then installed four SmartJacks through the crawlspace. This will not succumb to any water issues and can be adjusted if needed in the years to come. We then dug a trench around the interior perimeter, where we installed a perforated pipe in a silt sock. This will collect groundwater and grade it to a newly installed SuperSump Plus in the lowest spot. This then pushes all water safely out and away from the home to a LawnScape outlet. We then laid down a new 6 Mil vapor barrier. This is overlapped throughout the crawl space and run up the foundation walls to help this space dry and healthy.

Customer Suspects Repairs Needed - Longview, WA

This homeowner suspected that some cleanup and repairs might be needed for her crawlspace, so one of our Design Specialists was scheduled to go take a look.  Once there, he thoroughly examined the crawlspace and recommended a full encapsulation for its advantages in health and for the home.

After arriving a few weeks later, our crew got right to work and removed the damaged 6 mil vapor barrier, fiberglass insulation, and debris. They installed a 3" perforated pipe drainage system around the perimeter to collect the ground water and direct it to a newly installed TripleSafe sump pump, along with proper discharge. TerraBlock, a high-density foam product was laid over the dirt floor. This aids in insulating the crawlspace, protecting the new CleanSpace, 20mil, nylon-reinforced barrier. This is used to isolate each wooden post and anchored to the foundation walls. Lastly, a SaniDry dehumidifier was installed to ensure this home stayed dry and healthy. With all the vents sealed, Spray Foam insulation was applied to the full wall of the foundation to keep the home insulated and keep the air clean and free of mold.

Energy Lose in Longview, WA Basement

This home had high energy bills, and without any insulation in their unfinished basement, this was a great place to start to take control over heating and cooling costs. To ensure the job was done right, the homeowners called John's Waterproofing.

Our crew arrived and began by digging a trench along with the interior parameter and installing a WaterGuard drainage system. This would collect water and divert it to a newly installed TripleSafe Sump pump. We then covered the walls with our ThermalDry wall panels, this would help control the home's temperature, and was then covered in our BrightWall panels to give the space an easy to clean, bright unfinished look. This home saw their energy savings that very same month, and they could feel the difference as well.

Finished Basement has Water Problems - Longview, WA

This basement had been finished, their basement had fully installed drywall and carpeting throughout. While this had been done well, the contractors who had done the work, never added in any waterproofing solutions. Some of the rooms were beginning to experience water mold coming through the drywall and they had sections of the carpeting that would get water saturated when there was heavy rains. They wanted to keep using their basement, so they called John's Waterproofing.

Our crew came out and had to remove the interior Drywall sections of the basement as well as pull up all of the carpeting. We then dug down along the interior walls and installed WaterGuard piping to take all of the water to a newly installed SuperSump that would take all of the water and discharge it a safe distance away from the homes foundation. We then installed a ThermalDry wall radiant vapor barrier which keeps the homes heat in and water out. The floor was then covered in ThermalDry Carpeted Floor Tiles which would work to keep water out of the basement. Once we finished the basement was fully waterproofed and ready to be refinished.
