John's Waterproofing Case Studies: Fiberglass Won't Last in a Crawlspace - Junction City, OR
Challenge
This homeowner had glanced under their home and noticed that some chunks of fiberglass insulation had fallen down and was littered along top of their old vapor barrier. They called up John's Waterproofing to request a crew to clean up the mess, maybe install a new vapor barrier since it was in such disrepair. After explaining that the issues described a possibly bigger water related issue, they figured they might as well have a full inspection so they could see the full scope of what was happening under their home. Our design specialist ended up finding mold growing behind the damp fiberglass, as well as mud caked throughout the space, showing that water levels were rising above the vapor barrier and that could lead to dry rot for their homes wooden posts.
Solution
To remedy the situation we offer the long term solution, a full encapsulation. We removed the old fiberglass, cleared the debris, and the old vapor barrier. Mold X2 was applied as needed to clear up any mold growth that was appearing. A full interior perimeter drainage system was installed that would collect groundwater and send it to an UltraSump Plus to be discharged away from the home. We then sealed up all of the vents and insulated the floor with TerraBlock. We then installed CleanSpace. This 20 Mil woven vapor barrier is installed under each wooden post, attached to the walls and fully sealed into place. A SaniDry dehumidifier was installed and spray foam applied to the foundation walls. All in all, leaving this crawlspace dry and healthy for the long-run!
