Problems with High Humidity in Home- Custer WA
Challenge
Moisture from the crawl space can raise indoor humidity, causing discomfort and potential damage to the flooring, walls, and even furniture. This homeowner was struggling with high humidity in their home year round, but especially during the rainy season. They tried different solutions but they were only temporary fixes. Growing tired of these issues, and wanting a permanent solution- they reached out and set up a free inspection.
Solution
Once our system design specialist was through with the inspection he met with the homeowner and went over the game plan for this crawl space. The homeowner then decided to move forward with the project. We began by removing all of the debris. Next, we dig a trench around the interior perimeter of the crawl space and lay down a 3 inch perforated pipe into a silt sock to secure a safe passage for water to drain to the lowest point. At the lowest point, we install our SuperSump Plus to collect all of the water and pump it outside and away from the homes foundation via a discharge line to a LawnScape outlet. Next, we install TerraBlock onto the dirt floor. This insulates the floor and separates the home from the earth, blocking moisture from making its way up. We install our CleanSpace vapor barrier next, this goes on top of the TerraBlock and on the foundation walls up to the rim joists. Each post in the crawl space was lifted with a bottle jack to install our CleanSpace on the concrete footing of the wooden posts and this is then sealed with our waterproof tape. We make sure to cover all of the vents to prevent outside air from entering. We also installed our EverLast Door to create exterior access into the crawl space and this door will adapt to all weather conditions making it last the life of the home. To help with controlling the humid environment, we install our SaniDry Sedona. This effective dehumidifier will eliminate damp and musty odors by drying and filtering the air and will keep the home at a healthy relative humidity. To finish this project, we install foam insulation. This is sprayed all along the foundation walls, up to the rim joists, filling every crack and void to ensure an airtight seal. This will not only help with lowering the homes energy costs but will also protect the home from water intrusion causing humidity and moisture. With this crawl space now fully encapsulated, this homeowner can rest assured their problem finally found a permanent solution.
