Photo Album: Rodents Taking Over Crawl Space in Newport, OR

This homeowner reached out to John's in hopes of finding a solution for their rodent problem in their crawl space. The rodents had easy access through unsealed vents and were nesting in the fiberglass insulation. We went out and performed a thorough inspection where we found holes in the vapor barrier, rodent droppings and fiberglass insulation pulling away from the subfloors. When the inspection was done, we met with the homeowner to discuss the best options to create a secure crawl space that will not only keep rodents out but will keep the crawl space protected for years to come. This home did not have much water intrusion so they decided an encapsulation with no drainage would be the best option. We began this project by removing all of the old vapor barrier and fiberglass insulation. Next, we install our SmartDrain system that will alert the homeowner of a possible plumbing leak with an audible alarm and drain it away into a drywell under the CleanSpace system until they can fix the leak. Then, we cover and seal all of the vents to prevent outside elements from entering and install our 3/4th inch foam (TerraBlock) directly onto the dirt floor to insulate the ground. On top of the TerraBlock, between each footing and post as well as anchored into the foundation walls, we install our 20 mil thick CleanSpace system that is tear resistant and manufactured with an anti-microbial additive called UltraFresh that will help keep the space fresh and deter rodents To keep the environment controlled, we install our SaniDry Sedona. This effective dehumidifier will eliminate damp and musty odors by drying and filtering the air and will keep the home at a healthy relative humidity. Finally, we spray our foam insulation onto the foundation walls and as it expands it fills all the possible cracks and voids to not only help keep out pests but will also lower energy costs. Now that this crawl space is fully encapsulated and will remain protected for years to come.
