Photo Album: Don't Wait: Keep Water Out of the Crawl Space Now - Salem, OR
Back in 2020, this homeowner experienced water issues in their crawl space. They called John's Waterproofing about how they could solve this problem and we recommended the Pipe Pump Plastic system. At the time they wanted to wait and see if the water would go away during the Summer seasons. Unfortunately, when Fall came around, their water problem was back so they reached back out saying the issue was still happening and they were ready to waterproof their crawl space. To begin the Pipe Pump Plastic system, we first needed to remove the previous damaged vapor barrier. It was covered in dirt and debris brought in from water seeping which then evaporated into the air. Then, we installed a drainage system so that water would have a safe passageway to exit the crawl space instead of continuing to flood in. Our drainage system involves installing a perforated pipe along the interior perimeter of the crawl space. This pipe collects any rising groundwater or the water that seeps in through the walls and is able to securely send it to a SuperSump Plus sump pump. The SuperSump Plus takes all the collected water and pushes it out of the crawl space and away from the homes foundation. These two systems work together to keep the crawl space dry and keep water out. The last step of this process is installing a new 6 mil vapor barrier. We install this along the base, up the foundation walls, and between the footing and wooden posts. Each seam of the vapor barrier is overlapped to ensure water won't be able to seep over top of it and into the crawl space. To keep it secure, we anchor it up the foundation walls which helps prevent any sliding around. The homeowner was very impressed and glad that they won't have to worry about standing water.
Water Puddles in the Crawl Space.
Due to the rainy seasons, this crawl space was constantly experiencing water puddling throughout with no way to exit.
Debris Covering Vapor Barrier.
Because of the dirt and debris brought in from water, it can cause rips and tears in the vapor barrier so that it can't protect to keep out water in the future.
SuperSump Plus.
The SuperSump Plus works to take any water that intrudes into the crawl space and safely sends it out and away from the homes foundation.

A new vapor barrier was installed along the base and between the concrete footing and wooden posts to isolate and protect against water damage.
Anchoring Vapor Barrier to Walls.
It's important to protect the foundation walls in the crawl space and anchor the vapor barrier up there to help guide any moisture from the walls down below to the drainage system.
