Photo Album: Keeping the Basement Dry for the Family - Portland, OR
Using their finished basement as an area for the kids to play, it was important to this homeowner that it was dry and healthy. After noticing some discoloration on the drywall, they realized that water had been seeping through and they wanted the issue fixed quickly. The homeowner reached out to John's Waterproofing about their options at saving their basement and keeping it as a safe space for their kids. We suggested that a full basement waterproofing system would be the best option at keeping water out and preserving the health of their home. We first needed to install a drainage system so that any water that tries to intrude could be collected and sent out. We dug a trench along the interior perimeter of the basement to install a WaterGuard drainage system. This pipe collects water that tries to seep through and guides it to a sump pump. The SuperSump Plus sump pump then can take all that collected water and securely push it out and away from the homes foundation. Once the drainage system is installed and there is control over the flow of water, then we can begin protecting the walls. In one area of this basement we installed BrightWall. This is a white paneling that offers a semi-finished look, but also helps to guide any moisture from the walls down below to the drainage system. In another area of the basement where the kids would be, we installed ThermalDry. This is a heat and vapor barrier that helps to keep water out and insulate the space so that the walls can be finished over. Now that the full waterproofing system has been installed, this homeowner can enjoy the benefits of a dry and healthy basement without any worry.
