Photo Album: Musty Odors Coming from Basement - Corvallis, OR
This homeowner was noticing a musty smell coming from their basement and began to worry it would become a health hazard. She noticed her son was feeling sick more often and decided to have a professional come and take a look. After calling John's Waterproofing, we informed them that there was a major moisture issue that was causing the musty smell and making the basement unhealthy. We informed them our basement waterproofing system could rid the smell and save the basement. To begin, we needed to install a drainage system so there could be safe control over the passage of water. This way water wasn't just freely flowing inside the basement and evaporating in the air, resulting in exposure to mold and mildew growth. A trench gets jackhammered along the interior perimeter for a WaterGuard drainage pipe to be installed into. It sits at the footing of the basement and is lined with gravel so water can filter through easily. With the ability to collect water from the walls or rising groundwater, then the WaterGuard sends it to a TripleSafe sump pump. The TripleSafe is capable of controlling mass volumes of water at a time and can securely push it out of the basement and away from the homes foundation. With three heavy duty Zoeller pumps, one being a back up battery-operated pump, the basement can remain dry. Once the drainage system is installed, it gets covered with concrete so it is discreet and the basement can be usable. To protect the walls, a CleanSpace wall vapor barrier is installed. This is a 20 mil thick liner made with woven fibers that prevents moisture from seeping through. It helps guide any water from the walls to be sent down to the drainage system. Finally, to help get rid of the existing musty smell, a SaniDry XP dehumidifier is installed. This promote healthier air quality by filtering the air from moisture or particles. Now, the basement is fully waterproofed and the homeowners can rest knowing their home will remain dry and healthy for their family.
