Photo Album: Water Leaking Through Basement Walls - Roseburg, OR
This homeowner noticed that water was leaking through their basement walls. They were worried about the damage to their home if the issue continued and decided to call John's Waterproofing about possible solutions. We informed the homeowner that a basement waterproofing system would be able to protect their walls and also control the passage of water so it wouldn't be able to seep into the home. First, we installed a drainage system using a WaterGuard drainage pipe. This goes in a trench that is jackhammered along the interior perimeter of the basement. Its purpose is to collect water that tries to seep through and redirects it to a sump pump. This way water won't have access into the basement and can be safely pushed out. The SuperSump Plus sump pump takes all the collected water intrusion from the WaterGuard and uses a heavy duty Zoeller pump to push it out of the basement and away from the homes foundation. The sump pump gets installed at the lowest point and is capable of controlling mass volumes of water at a time. Finally, because the walls were facing the most water damage, we wanted to install a system that would protect the walls and prepare for the space to later be finished. This is done with a ThermalDry wall vapor barrier. This is a heat and vapor resistant liner that helps prevent heat loss and keeps water out. It is anchored to the basement walls and sealed with 4 inch thick waterproof tape. It acts as a guide for moisture on the walls to be sent down below to the drainage system and be pumped out. With this system working together, the homeowner can now enjoy all the benefits of a dry and healthy basement.
Water Damaged Basement Walls.
This photo shows where the water was leaking through on the basement walls with the cracks in the foundation and the discoloration. Without control of the water intrusion this can begin to cause serious structural damage on the home.
Pumping Water Out.
The most important part of waterproofing is installing a SuperSump Plus sump pump to collect all the water intrusion and safely pump it out and away from the homes foundation.
Discreet WaterGuard Drainage System.
The WaterGuard drainage pipe sits at the footing of the basement and collects water from the walls or rising groundwater. Once it is installed, the pipe is covered with concrete to offer homeowners a discreet, yet effective, water drainage system.
Sealing ThermalDry to Walls.
ThermalDry provides a thermal break and acts as a vapor barrier to guide moisture from the walls down below to the drainage system. It helps protect the walls from water intrusion and keeps the basement dry.
