When water levels rise in the crawl space it can carry the mud over top of a simple 6 mil vapor barrier. As the water evaporates into the crawl space, dirt ends up caked on top of the 6 Mil. This is an identifiable way to know that water issues have been present, as that evaporated water can lead to long term damage to your homes sub-floor. This home had caked on mud and puddling still present when one of our design specialists was performing their free inspection. To get the home into a dry and healthy condition, we would have to clear the space out and install a full encapsualtion. This system will keep water out of the crawl space, sealing the space against outside elements, so we may control the space and keep it healthy all year round.
Water Over the Vapor Barrier
With water coming in with mud, the water will flow to the lowest point where it puddles, leaving behind a trail of dried dirt
Mess on the 6 Mil
This 6 Mil should have been replaced years ago, it was in poor shape
Puddling Water
This low point housed puddles of water
Installing Drainage
Once we removed the old vapor barrier we dug a trench and installed a full drain system to collect and direct the groundwater to the lowest point
Completed Project
To keep the space sealed we use a special four inch wide waterproof tape along each seam of the new CleanSpace vapor barrier and than install spray foam insulation along the foundation walls to air seal the space
