After years of saving up so they could remodel their home, these homeowners were devastated to find that their basement finishing project had to be put on pause. There was a water intrusion. The contractor explained to the homeowners that this would cause long term structural problems if they didn't get the issue resolved quickly, so they reached out to John's Waterproofing. We informed the homeowners that we would be able to stop the water intrusion and keep their basement dry with our waterproofing systems and they agreed. The first step when dealing with water entering the basement is installing a drainage system. Drainage is important because it offers a safe passageway for water to flow through and send it away from the homes foundation. Without it, then water can just puddle into the basement wherever it wants and makes the space completely unusable. To install drainage, we jackhammer a trench along the interior perimeter of the basement and install a WaterGuard drainage pipe. WaterGuard is installed along the footing of the basement and is lined with gravel to allow for water to filter through without clogging. It collects water from the ground and the walls and sends it to a TripleSafe sump pump. The sump pump takes all that collected water and is able to push it out of the basement and away from the homes foundation through a discharge line. TripleSafe is a three-pump system that can handle large volumes of water at once and has a backup battery operated pump so even if the power goes out, the basement will stay dry. The last step of our waterproofing system involves installing ThermalDry along the foundation walls. ThermalDry is a heat and vapor barrier that acts as a guide for any moisture from the walls to be sent down below to the WaterGuard drainage pipe and be sent out of the basement. We anchor it to the walls and seal it in place with 4 inch thick waterproof tape. We then installed a SaniDry dehumidifier to ensure the air is controlled and won't suffer from high relative humidity. Once this system is fully installed, not only will the basement remain dry, but it will be ready to be finished for the homeowners dream remodel.
Water Intrusion on Basement Walls.
The discoloration spots are indicators of where water has been seeping through and bringing outside sediment into the basement.
Covered WaterGuard.
WaterGuard is installed along the interior perimeter of the basement and is covered with concrete to offer homeowners a discreet drainage system.
ThermalDry Along Basement Walls.
ThermalDry is the silver vapor barrier along the basement walls that helps guide any moisture along the walls down to the drainage system so all areas of the basement is waterproofed.
TripleSafe Sump Pump Installation.
The TripleSafe sump pump is installed in the lowest point of the basement and can securely take the collected water from the drainage system and can push it out and away from the homes foundation to keep the basement dry and healthy.
