Securing a Dangerously Sloping Hillside Near Home - Florence, OR
Challenge
The home on this property was built at the highest point, on a small flat area of land. Off to one side of the home, only a mere approximate 20 feet away, the flat land abruptly drops off. Because of this drop off, the flat ground leading up to it had begun to crumble and slope downward. This is a problem, because the home is so close to this area of unstable soil. There was an old rotten wooden fence that was intended to hold the ground in place, however it was not strong enough to do so anymore. If this downward sloping ground wasn't stopped from continuing to shift, the foundation of the home would inevitably begin to move with the ground - causing structural damage - and could eventually be swept down hill. This dangerous situation was highly urgent to mediate.
Solution
To protect this home and the family within, our team of Structural Experts arrived to build and pour a concrete Retaining Wall, directly in front of the sloping hillside. Before they began, they removed the old wooden fence, dug out the crumbling soil, and compacted the ground to provide stability to the Wall. This incredibly sturdy Retaining Wall will remain in place to prevent the hillside from sloping any further downhill. Inside of the Retaining Wall, our crew placed heavy-duty rebar, to ensure that the structural stability of the Wall would be adequate to withstand the tests of time against the soil it will be supporting. With the hillside now held firmly in place, this homes foundation is no longer at risk of being carried downhill with the sloping movement of the soil around it. The integrity of the entire structure of this home is now protected, and this homeowner and his family can rest assured that their home will remain safely perched at the highest point on their property. Way to go Structural Crew for quickly and effectively restoring safety and stability to another family home!
