Foundation Repair Photo Album: Installation of Drainage System Into Concrete Patio - Portland, OR
This homeowner was concerned about standing water on her concrete patio. She did some research, and found that John's was the leading expert in waterproofing and concrete work in her area. She called us, and we scheduled her inspection in a timely manner. When our Design Specialist arrived at this home, he spoke with the homeowner and listened to her concerns. After their conversation, he performed a thorough inspection, and presented solutions in regards to the standing water issue. He explained to the homeowner that not only was the standing water unsightly, it was also posing a great threat to the integrity of her concrete patio, as well as the foundation walls of her home. He explained that standing water can, over time, cause substantial damage to structures, as the presence of too much water can cause erosion to concrete and weakening of the foundation of the home as well as the ground it sits on. She listened intently while our Design Specialist thoughtfully explained everything to her, and she decided to move forward with our recommended solution - the installation of a drainage system into her concrete patio. She signed the Job Proposal, and we scheduled our crew to come out and complete the work.
When our crew arrived, the first step was cutting out 35 feet of concrete, along the downhill edge of the patio, to form a trench. Inside of the trench, we placed 35 feet of XL TrenchDrain. The TrenchDrain is made of highly durable metal, and will collect all water that accumulates on the patio, and will follow the downhill slope, to drain the water safely away from the home via a drainage line. If cleaning is necessary, the cover of the drain is easily removeable. After installing the TrenchDrain, we poured fresh concrete around the length of the drain, to hold it permanently in place. The edges of the TrenchDrain have flanges that protrude out of the sides to help the concrete securely hold them. From now on, all of the water that accumulates on this patio, will be safely collected and expelled away from the home. This homeowner is happy to no longer have standing water on her patio, where she enjoys to relax and unwind. Additionally, the integrity of the strength of her patio, and foundation of her home, is now protected from the devastating damage that standing water can cause.

We cut this drain hole into the concrete at the end of the TrenchDrain, so that the collected water can exit the TrenchDrain, and be expelled through a drain line safely away from the home.
