Foundation Repair Photo Album: Home With Cracked Interior Walls - Madras, OR
The owner of this home noticed several cracks in the interior walls of his home. This was unsettling, as he suspected that this must indicate foundation problems. He called on John's to come take a look. When our Design Specialist arrived, he confirmed that the homeowner was correct about his understanding of this issue - cracked interior walls do indeed indicate foundation problems. After our Design Specialist performed a thorough inspection of the foundation, he explained to the homeowner that it was settling on the back and left sides of the home, and this settling had caused the cracks. He also explained the cause of a settling foundation - many years of soil compression and expansion beneath the home. Next, they discussed solutions. Our Design Specialist recommended installing several Steel Push Piers, to lift the home back up. Doing this, would return the foundation to its appropriate height, and would prevent any further cracks from forming in the walls of the home. The homeowner agreed with this recommendation, and we got him on our schedule.
On the morning of the job, our crew of structural experts arrived and got straight to work! First, they dug out a small portion of ground in front of the settling foundation walls, to make room to work. Next, they attached 6 Steel Brackets directly onto the concrete foundation wall - 2 on the back side, and 4 along the left side. After the Brackets were firmly bolted in place, our crew hydraulically drove Steel Push Piers through each of the 6 Brackets, deep into the earth beneath. We continued driving the Piers down, until we reached the weight bearing stratum. After reaching this highly strong and dense ground, we continued downward insertion of the Piers until the entire home was lifted back to its correct and level height. With the installation of the Piers finished, we covered them up with the dirt that we dug out before starting, to leave a finished appearance. The Push Piers will remain in place to support the weight of the home, and to prevent any future settling. The experts here at John's have now protected the structure of this home against the detrimental affects that a settling foundation can cause. After this job was completed, the homeowner told us that our crew was very hardworking and did a great job.
