Foundation Repair Photo Album: A Deck in Distress - Troutdale, OR
When homeowners noticed their deck becoming wobbly, unstable, and visibly bowing, they knew it was time to call John's for help. We sent a Design Specialist out to inspect the home, figure out what was causing the problem, and build a plan to fix it. During the inspection, they discovered cracks in the concrete underneath the deck, along with settling that was putting uneven stress on the deck's support system, causing it to bow. We urgently constructed a plan with the homeowners to save their deck before it met its demise.
To restore the deck's stability, we installed 10 SmartJacks underneath to provide the support it had been missing. We then added new wood beams throughout the deck, removed the old ledger board and railing, and installed sturdy replacements. With the improvements in place, the deck was finally supported, stable, and ready to be used to its fullest potential.
Cracking Concrete
Cracks in the concrete underneath the deck show that the home's foundation was settling and struggling to provide support to the structure above.
Sloping Deck
The deck was sloping downward toward the support posts, a clear sign that the structure was settling and losing the level support it needs.
Bowing in Deck
The deck surface was bowing and sagging, creating an uneven and unsafe area for the homeowners to walk on.
Brand New Railing
The new railing transformed the deck with a clean design that is not only inviting but sturdy and reliable. It provides support while giving the homeowners a finished space to enjoy.
SmartJacks
Ten SmartJacks, galvanized steel posts, were installed underneath to lift the deck back into place and provide the needed support.
