Home Health Photo Album: Upgrading the Basement to Stay Dry and Healthy - Newberg, OR
Every homeowners worst fear is water. Not because water itself is bad, but what water does to the home can be detrimental. Water gets absorbed into the homes materials which can cause mold to grow, wood to rot, and impact the structural integrity of the home. This homeowner noticed some water entering their basement and called John's Waterproofing to get the issue solved quickly before serious damage occurred to their home. When waterproofing a basement, the most important part is installing a proper drainage system so that any water that tries to enter can have a safe passage to exit too. We do this by jackhammering a trench along the interior perimeter of the basement and installing a WaterGuard system. This is a drainage pipe that sits along the footing of the basement and collects any water that tries to intrude. It is lined with gravel to help water filter easily through and help prevent clogging. Once the water is collected by the WaterGuard, it gets sent to a TripleSafe sump pump. This three-pump system is designed to be able to take gallons of water and safely push it out of the basement and away from the homes foundation. With these two systems working together, then their is proper control over the water that was seeping through. We also wanted to protect the basement walls by installing a CleanSpace wall vapor barrier. This is a 20 mil thick liner that is made with woven fibers to protect from water getting through. This acts as a guide to direct any moisture from the walls down below to the drainage pipe which can then be sent out and away from the home. In order to control the air quality, we also installed a SaniDry XP dehumidifier to filter the air by pulling out moisture particles. Once this entire basement waterproofing system is installed, the homeowner gets to enjoy all the benefits that come with having a dry and healthy home.

This basement had several years worth of water intrusion that was beginning to cause cracks in the foundation and sediment build up on the floors.
Indicators of Water Intrusion.
This photo shows that the floors of the basement had shown signs of water seeping up and caused damage and discoloration.
