Home Health Photo Album: Keep Your Home Healthy from the Crawl Space - Ridgefield, WA
Encapsulating your crawl space can be one of the best things to improve your homes health. Over time water tries to seep through and can cause structural damage to the home. If that happens, then there is a significantly higher risk of exposure to mold, wood rot, and rodent activity. After this homeowner recently purchased a new house for their family, they knew that encapsulating the crawl space would be a necessary improvement in order to keep the home dry and healthy. At John's Waterproofing, we begin all of our encapsulations by removing any falling insulation and debris. This provides a clean space for when we install our drainage system using a perforated pipe and a sump pump. The perforated pipe gets installed along the interior perimeter of the crawl space to collect any water that tries to enter and offers a passageway to the SuperSump Plus sump pump. This pump takes all that collected water and securely pushes it out and away from the homes foundation. Next, TerraBlock gets installed along the base. This is a thick insulation foam designed to seal the home off from the earth and help to control the environment. A CleanSpace vapor barrier gets installed on top of the insulation foam, up the foundation walls, and between the footing and wooden posts. It is meant to prevent any water from seeping through and helps to isolate and protect against water damage. A SaniDry dehumidifier gets installed to filter the air by pulling out any moisture or particles. The last step of the encapsulation is applying Spray Foam along the foundation walls to insulate and air seal. This entire system helps keep the crawl space dry and free from water intrusion, thus keeping the home healthy.
Debris Covered Vapor Barrier.
Before the encapsulation, this crawl space had dirt and debris covering the vapor barrier which indicates that there has been previous water intrusion.
Torn Original Vapor Barrier.
The original vapor barrier was torn and falling down from the wall, negating its purpose of isolating and keeping water out.
New CleanSpace Vapor Barrier.
After the encapsulation is completed, the spaces insulation is now along the dirt floor via TerraBlock and spray foam along the walls
Clean and Dry.
The new vapor barrier is secured in place with thick waterproof tape
SuperSump Plus Sump Pump.
The sump pump is the machine that actively keeps water out by continuously pumping and pushing water away from the homes foundation.
