Home Health Photo Album: Musty Smells in the Basement - Blue River, OR
This basement had musty odors emanating from it, making its way into the living spaces. With the owners son getting sick more and more frequently, they were adamant about finding a solution to their issue. After talking about this issue with family, the owner of the home was told to call John's Waterproofing. We did a full inspection and than sat down with the owners and discussed the water issues at hand as well as the solution that would be able to address all of their concerns to help make their home healthy.
To begin on this project we dug a trench around the interior perimeter of the space. Within this we laid down rock and our WaterGuard drainage system. This will collect water and channel it safely around the room to the lowest point. Here the water will enter a TripleSafe sump pump which the water is sent away from the home via a discharge line. Next we addressed the four below-grade windows in the basement. For these we installed our WellDuct system. This involves installing drainage for the window so all water from the window well can safely travel into the WaterGuard drain system to be dealt with. Along the walls we than installed our CleanSpace wall system. This is a 20 Mil woven vapor barrier with a woven fiber through it. This material will not rot or mold, and will safely allow moisture to be directed from the walls to the WaterGuard system as well. We then installed a SaniDry dehumidifier, this will keep the spaces relative humidity at a healthy level so mold and mildew won't stand a chance. With air quality at the top of the list of concerns for the owners, we finished this project by installing an Aspen air purifier in the living spaces above. the owners are very happy that the musty odor is already gone from the basement and they look forward to enjoying healthier air!
Discoloration Along the Floor
The floor would hold puddling water which was discoloring the foundation floor
Old Sump Pump
The old sump system within the basement was no longer working and was just a safety caution at this point
Addressing Water
The sump pump in the corner would keep water moving away from the home and the SaniDry will address any moisture left within the air
