Home Health Photo Album: Small Crawl Space Needs Encapsulation - Silverton, OR
This homeowner had a small crawl space on the very end of their home. Because of its size, the homeowner hadn't thought about it recently and decided it was time to take a look. To their surprise, it was discovered that their was no vapor barrier and debris was covering the entire space. Wanting a solution, they reached out to John's Waterproofing about an encapsulation. We first needed to remove all the debris that was covering the base of the crawl space. Then, we installed a drainage system using a perforated pipe along the interior perimeter. Because water wasn't a huge issue for this space, we opted to install a sump pump container that would collect the water from the pipe and safely offer a safe passageway to exit the crawl space. This is done so in the event that water does become an issue for this homeowner, then they won't have to tear apart their encapsulation and instead we can add a heavy duty Zoeller pump right into the container. Afterwards, TerraBlock insulation foam is installed along the crawl space floor. This is to seal the space off from the earth and regulate the environment. It helps the crawl space maintain the same temperature year round so that the heating/cooling systems won't have to work as hard to keep up with the changing climate. On top of the TerraBlock, a CleanSpace vapor barrier is installed. This 20 mil thick liner helps isolate and protect the crawl space from keeping anything out that isn't supposed to enter. It helps prevent future water intrusion, deter rodents, and protect the wooden posts. A SaniDry dehumidifier is installed to promote healthier air quality by pulling excess moisture and particles out of the air. Finally, Spray Foam will be applied to the foundation walls as a final air sealant and insulator. Now, this homeowner won't have to worry about the state of their crawl space and it can remain healthy all year round.
Completely Destroyed Insulation.
The fiberglass insulation in this crawl space had completely fallen and detached the sub-floor, negating its purpose of being able to insulate the home.
Debris Covering Crawl Space Floor.
This crawl space was filled with dirt and debris covering the entire crawl space floor. There was also no protection against future water intrusion because it lacked a vapor barrier.
CleanSpace Sealing Crawl Space.
CleanSpace is a thick vapor barrier that seals off the crawl space. It helps keep water out and deter rodents.
Sump Pump Container.
Because there wasn't significant water intrusion, this homeowner opted to just install a sump pump container that way in the future if water becomes an issue it can be easily installed.
SaniDry Dehumidifier For Healthier Air.
The SaniDry dehumidifier helps promote better air quality because it keeps the relative humidity at about 55% all year. Its purpose is pulling excess moisture and particles out of the air.
