Insulation Photo Album: Ditching the Fiberglass with Encapsulation - Corvallis, OR
Insulation is incredibly important in the crawl space. Not only does the right insulation help with energy efficiency by reducing heat loss, it also helps with prevent high humidity and condensation issues like mold and mildew. But, how does the right insulation work compared to fiberglass? When water seeps into the crawl space, depending on the environment, it will eventually evaporate and get into the air increasing the moisture content. That moisture gets absorbed in materials like fiberglass insulation and wooden posts. Too much moisture increases the humidity levels which can lead to mold or mildew growing. To protect your home from these issues, homes need insulation that is made to last in the crawl space. At John's Waterproofing, our insulation technique involves using TerraBlock. This is a 3/4 inch thick insulation foam that actually goes along the base of the crawl space. It completely separates the home from the earth and seals the space off. This improves energy efficiency because the temperature in the crawl space can be controlled and the home's heating/cooling systems don't have to work as hard to keep up with the changing outdoor climate. It is cut to individually fit each crawl space to ensure there are no gaps or holes. Then along the walls we can install SilverGlo. This material is anchored to the walls and air sealed. Over these systems we install our CleanSpace which is a 20 Mil thick woven vapor barrier. Overall, by encapsulating the crawl space and insulating properly, it helps to protect your homes health and keep it dry.
Falling Fiberglass from High Humidity.
Because water evaporated into the air and was absorbed by the fiberglass insulation, it resulted it in sagging and falling from the sub-floor.
Proper Insulation with TerraBlock.
TerraBlock and the CleanSpace vapor barrier on top help to improve energy efficiency by sealing the crawl space off and keeping water from seeping through.
Keep Crawl Spaces Dry.
By encapsulating the crawl space, it is insulating and keeping it dry so that the home can stay healthy.
