Insulation Photo Album: Insulation Solutions - Vancouver, WA
This homeowner was having issues with humidity in the home and their energy bills were very high year round. They suspected it may have something to do with their insulation. They called John's Waterproofing to get a free estimate and inspection. We sent one of our system design specialists out to check the crawl space and he found that most of the fiberglass insulation had fallen and was not insulating the home. Our design specialist and homeowner then met to discuss options to help upgrade this crawl space. For a long term solution, they decided to move forward with an encapsulation. With a full encapsulation, energy costs are reduced by creating a barrier against moisture and air leaks which will help with maintaining a consistent temperature in the house. To begin this project we remove all the old fiberglass insulation and damaged vapor barrier, and then dig a trench around the interior perimeter of the crawl space to then lay down a perforated pipe into a silt sock. This will help secure a safe passage for the water to drain to the SuperSump Plus pump at the lowest point. We then install a discharge line outside to drain the water away from the homes foundation. Next, we install our TerraBlock system, this goes directly on the dirt floor of the crawl space, creating an insulated barrier between the home and the earth. On top of the TerraBlock, we install our CleanSpace system. This goes along all the foundation walls, up to the rim joists, and is sealed with our waterproof tape against the footing of the wooden posts. All the vents in this crawl space are sealed shut to make sure no outside air enters the space. To control the environment we install our SaniDry Sedona. This effective dehumidifier will eliminate damp, musty odors by drying and filtering the air all while promoting healthy air throughout the entire home. It will also keep the home at a healthy relative humidity. Lastly, we install our foam insulation. We spray our foam insulation along the foundation walls, all the way up to the rim joists ensuring a complete air tight seal in this space. These homeowners will see their energy bill lower and will feel a major difference in the air they are breathing.
Before Encapsulation
Nasty, dark, damp, unprotected crawl space.
Fallen Fiberglass insulation
When the fiberglass is not properly insulating the home, it can cause energy bills to rise and will cause floors in the home to be cold. Rodents especially love to use this kind of insulation as nesting.
After encapsulation
The white finish of our CleanSpace system really brightens the space and allows the homeowner to easily see that it is free of mold, insects, and dirt.
SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier
Our SaniDry will keep the home at a healthy relative humidity all while promoting healthy air throughout the home.
Spray Foam Insulation
Our foam insulation is sprayed all along the foundation walls, up to the rim joists and ensures an airtight seal in the crawl space.
