Radon Gas Mitigation Photo Album: Protecting a Family with a Radon Mitigation System- Portland, OR
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that has become the second-leading cause of lung cancer- only second to cigarette smoke. Most soils contain uranium that over time, decay to produce radium and polonium which is eventually released with the radon creating a high toxicity level in the air and water it infuses. Unfortunately, radon is completely undetectable with any human senses, making everyone in the home more susceptible to contracting lung cancer. This homeowner was remodeling their basement for their family, so they wanted to be proactive and install a radon mitigation system. They reached out to John's Waterproofing to do the job. The system is installed by digging a 2 foot hole in the lowest point of this homes basement. Next, a PVC pipe is connected to the hole to vent the Radon gas from the soil beneath the home and sends it to the fan system outside of the house for proper ventilation. To resist gas entry, any cracks are sealed using high quality caulking. With this system, the Radon gas is depressurized and expelled out into the atmosphere. The homeowner feels relief knowing their family is protected against the odorless and harmful gas.
Before Installation
The fan system is going to be installed on the side of the house.
Radon Fan System
This fan system will push the Radon gas out into the atmosphere ensuring the occupants are not breathing it in.
Outside Install
The Radon fan is installed on the outside of the home and protected by a cover.
Radon Mitigation System
The pipe is installed in the two foot hole allowing for the soil to be depressurized and the Radon gas be vented properly to the outdoor fan system.
