When crawl spaces are unprotected, it causes issues such as water intrusion, structural damage, pest infestation and poor air quality. The condition of the crawl space directly affects the air quality that is circulating into the home above. This is called the stack effect and causes unpleasant damp and musty odors to rise up into the home. These homeowners wanted to find a solution that would help them create a dry, stable, and healthy home. They scheduled their free visit and we went out and thoroughly inspected the crawl space, then went to discuss the findings with the homeowner and worked with them to create a game plan that will address all of their concerns. First, we remove all of the debris, old vapor barrier and fiberglass insulation. Next, we dig a trench around the interior perimeter of the space and in it we place a 3 inch perforated pipe into a silt sock that will create a secure passage for water to drain to the lowest point. At the low point we install our SuperSump Plus that will gather all of the water that enters and pump it outside of the home through a discharge line. We also install our EverLast door to create exterior access that will protect and seal the crawl space off from the elements. We then make sure to cover and seal all of the vents to prevent outside air from entering. Following this is the installation of our TerraBlock. This system is designed to be installed onto the dirt floors to help block out moisture. Our CleanSpace system is then anchored into the foundation walls, up to the rim joists, in between each post and footing as well as sealed directly over top of the TerraBlock system with our heavy duty CleanSpace tape. To keep the environment controlled, we install our SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier to effectively eliminate damp and musty odors by drying and filtering the air. This keeps the relative humidity at a healthy stable level- helping in addressing the odors the homeowners were concerned about. We finish this project by installing our foam insulation onto the foundation walls, up to the rim joists. This material expands, filling every crack and void ensuring an airtight seal. Now that this project is complete, these homeowners no longer have worries about their crawl space causing any more issues in their home.
