Crawl Space Repair Photo Album: Waterproofing Crawl Space and Installing New Access - Portland, OR
The owners of this home wanted to have their crawl space waterproofed, and were in need of an updated crawl space access door. They had noticed musty odors inside of their home, and were suspecting the source of the unpleasant smell was coming from their crawl space. When our Design Specialist arrived, he thoroughly inspected the crawl space and foundation of the home. Inside of the crawl space, he found a large amount of standing water and rodent feces. The existing crawl space access door was not air-tight, and had gaps along the edges that had let rodents and debris enter the space for many years. Additionally, water intrusion had been a persistent problem beneath this home. The presence of standing water and rodent feces had created an unhealthy environment inside of the crawl space, affecting the home above. With 40% of the air inside of your home, coming from your crawl space - it is imperative that your crawl space is free of unhealthy debris. Our Design Specialist informed the homeowners that without a drainage system installed, the air quality would only worsen, and the foundation of the home would inevitably begin to settle into the wet, soft ground beneath it. Additionally, the exterior access door would need to be replaced with an air-tight, weather-resistant access, referred to as a Turtl, to prevent rodents and debris from entering the space. They signed their custom Job Proposal, and we got them on our schedule.
When our crew of Waterproofing Experts arrived at the home soon after, they got straight to work. First, they removed all of the old and nasty crawlspace debris, leaving a nice clean space to work in. Next, they laid down our Drain Matt to cover the ground of the crawl space entirely. Drain Matt is a perforated matt that carries and directs all water intrusion into the lowest point of the crawl space, directly into a SuperSump Pump installed by our crew. To ensure 24/7 operation of the Pump, our Electrical Division came out and installed a dedicated electrical circuit in the crawl space. After water intrusion reaches the Pump, it will be expelled from the home via a buried discharge line. Pumping all water out of the crawl space and away from the home will ensure that the soil beneath the home remains dry, healthy, and strong enough to support the weight of the home. On top of the Drain Matt, we laid down our 6 Mil Black Plastic Vapor Barrier, to prevent moisture from seeping in through the ground. With the crawl space Drainage System now installed, it was time to remove and replace the original crawl space access door with a new custom-cut Turtl. Our Turtl Access Doors are made of rigid plastic, and are resistant against harsh weather and rot. They are air-tight, allowing absolutely no rodents, debris, or air to enter the crawl space. They will last the life of the home, and create a clean and comfortable access point into the crawl space. Now that this crawl space has been equipped with a professional Drainage System, it will no longer suffer from standing water.
