Crawl Space Repair Photo Album: Massive Crawl Space Transformation - Bellingham, WA

This family was tired of having a dark, dreary, and musty crawl space beneath their home, so they called on John's to come take a look. Our Design Specialist arrived and performed a thorough, free inspection. He realized that the space was indeed dark and dreary, with a "heavy", moldy smell. There was also evidence of water intrusion into the space, indicated by not only the smell, but also the dirty vapor barrier, and some sagging subfloor and wall insulation. The water intrusion had caused the air inside of the space to feel damp and heavy - creating poor air quality both beneath of, and inside of the home. He explained to the homeowner's that a damp crawl space is very detrimental to the health of your loved ones, as 40% of the air inside of your home comes from your crawl space. The homeowner was alarmed to hear this, and was eager to take the necessary steps to protect the health of their family. Understanding the weight and importance of the family's concern, he suggested fully encapsulating the crawl space, and explained to the family that this solution is the gold standard in crawl space waterproofing and management. This system would seal the space entirely, preventing rodents and debris from entering, and would also waterproof it, to ensure healthier air was rising up into the home.  First, we removed all of the old and dirty debris, leaving a nice clean space beneath the home. Next, to ensure that all future water intrusion into the space will be unable to cause damage, we installed a SuperSump Pump at the lowest point, to immediately expel all water safely away from the home via an underground discharge line. Our crew then laid down 2 layers of ground coverings inside of the space, to cover the entire dirt floor. The first layer, TerraBlock, would insulate the floor, and provide a sturdy surface. Directly on top of the TerraBlock, as well as up onto the walls, we placed our 20 Mil CleanSpace Vapor Barrier, which is interlaced with carbon fibers - providing incredible durability. CleanSpace is bright and white, and transforms crawl spaces into clean, welcoming areas that are waterproof and can be safely used as dry storage - greatly increasing the useable square footage of homes. CleanSpace even comes with a 25 year warranty against rips and tears. To maintain a safe air quality at all times, we also installed a heavy-duty dehumidifier. This machine both cleans and removes moisture, allergens, and toxins from the air, while also preventing mold growth. Finally, to insulate the foundation walls, we attached SilverGlo Panels directly onto the walls. These 2-sided panels prevent water from entering the space through the walls, and reflect heat back into the home - saving families countless dollars per year on heating and cooling costs. All of our professionally installed Encapsulation components work together at all times to keep crawl spaces dry, healthy, and conducive to the health of the family living above them.
