Crawl Space Repair Photo Album: Lurking Humidity in Cheshire, OR

These homeowners could feel the humidity rising through their sub floors and started to get concerned with the state of their crawl space. They had relied on mold remediation to clear the crawl space every few years, and they were due again. But this time, they decided to get a free inspection with John's. When our Design Specialist arrived and examined the exterior and interior they found humidity was brewing inside the crawl space from the aged fiberglass that was once used as insulation and now is cluttered, drooping, and dysfunctional. The homeowners and the Design Specialist created a plan to save their crawl space and repair it to be able to handle any problem.  Our crew showed up and got to work. We started with removing all useless insulation and debris from the interior to give it a clean start to begin the project. To waterproof the crawl space, we installed a perforated pipe along the perimeter of the interior to gather all water. It will flow to the lowest point of the area and drain into the Super Sump. This is a sump pump that will collect water and pump it outside of the house through a discharge line. This system will keep the crawl space from becoming wet or ruined. After the Super Sump, we began to apply Terra Block along the dirt floors. Terra Block is a long lasting, durable insulation. It has a vapor barrier included to be protected from moisture and is puncture resistant. Over the Terra Block, we lay the thick 20 mil liner with a woven fiber through it; CleanSpace. Lining the ground with CleanSpace will completely separate the house from the exposed earth. Having a bright sleek liner will make the space looker nicer and allow you to see the crawl space is completely mold free. Moving onto the exterior of the crawl space, the vents were letting in outside air, leading to the high levels of humidity within the crawl space. The team installed covers to every vent to block out outside air, rodents, dirt, and insects from entering. To insulate the interior walls, we applied Spray Foam to eliminate any moisture coming in from the foundation walls. Spray Foam is a great, modern insulation that will air seal the space, increasing effectiveness and providing an 100% air seal. The crawl space is officially fully insulated, so the last step is to install a dehumidifier. The SaniDry XP will filter and dry the air as well as remove all damp odors. It will take ten times the amount of water out of the air as a typical dehumidifier, yet use the same amount of energy! The heavy duty SaniDry is the perfect product for the overwhelming humidity problem that these homeowners had. Finally, our team finished the crawl space and the homeowners no longer have to worry about the humidity seeping into their house!
