Crawl Space Repair Photo Album: Shredded Vapor Barrier - Sherwood. OR
This crawl space was trashed by an old vapor barrier which was ripped to shreds, dirt everywhere, and fiber glass hanging from the subfloor. Rodents, mold, and unhealthy levels of moisture were attracted to this, which is the exact opposite of what the homeowners wanted. They scheduled a free inspection with John's to see what could be done to fix these problems. Our design specialist arrived and examined the exterior and interior of the home. They discussed what was found with the owners and what was necessary to repair the crawl space. Together, they scheduled a day to make those repairs.
Our crew came and got straight to work. We began to remove the existing fiberglass and debris to have a fresh start to the project. Next, we installed a perf pipe around the perimeter of the interior that will collect any water and drain it to the lowest point of the crawl space. This is where the brand new TripleSafe is located and it is a heavy duty sump pump containing 3 pumps. The water will be pumped out of the house through an attached discharge line. Next, we put in TerraBlock as a durable long lasting insulation for the dirt floors. TerraBlock is used to combat the specific needs of the crawl space and is puncture resistant. On top of the TerraBlock we place CleanSpace, a 20 mil thick white liner. CleanSpace is great when combined with other products and gives the crawl space a bright sleek look. To eliminate any air and rodents from entering from outside, we install covers for each vent. The walls were also needing to be insulated, so we applied Spray Foam that fills every space and void, providing an 100% air seal. Spray Foam is a modern, easy insulation that will keep moisture away from the interior of the crawl space. The final step is to install the powerful SaniDry. This dehumidifier will keep the air dry and filtered and the humidity at a safe level. The SaniDry uses the same energy as a typical dehumidifier, while taking ten times more water out of the air. The crawl space is fully encapsulated and is now safe, dry, and rodent free. The owners couldn't be more happy with the service from John's Waterproofing.
Ripped Vapor Barrier
As shown, you see more exposed ground than the vapor barrier that is supposed to separate the earth from the house. The unconcealed dirt is attracting high humidity and mold to the crawl space.
Exposed Vents
Before encapsulating the crawl space, these vents were welcoming outside air, rodents, and dirt inside, creating many problems. To fix this problem we tightly put in vent covers to avoid those problems.
