When inspecting this crawl space, our Design Specialist found hanging and fallen insulation, which is evidence of water intrusion. Additionally, the main support beam of the subfloor was terribly compromised, and was unfit to evenly support the extreme weight of the home. Several subfloor posts were lifted entirely off of their concrete footings, while other portions of the home were being supported only by stacked bricks and pieces of wood. This creates a dangerous situation, and if left as is, structural deterioration and collapse were likely. In order to protect this crawl space from future ground water intrusion, our crew first cleaned out the entire space, ridding it of all debris, and then installed a fresh 6 Mil Vapor Barrier, to cover the entire dirt floor as well as the walls, preventing water from seeping in. Next, to reinforce and offer essential support to the main beam of the subfloor, we removed each of the compromised or makeshift posts, and replaced them with our heavy-duty Steel SmartJacks. Our SmartJacks are carefully adjusted by hand, until the overhead floors are returned to level, and even weight distribution is achieved along the entire main support beam throughout the home. SmartJacks immediately restore structural integrity to formerly weakened and wonky subfloors. This extends the longevity of homes, while creating a safer place for families to thrive. SmartJacks remain in place and are easily adjusted in the future if need be. Traditional subfloor posts are made of wood, which are highly susceptible to rot. Replacing such posts with SmartJacks supports homes in a much more lasting and effective manner. The floors inside of this home have now been returned to level, creating a safer and more comfortable living environment for this family. Additionally, the fresh vapor barrier will ensure that ground water no longer seeps into the crawl space, helping this home to remain dry, stable, and healthy.
