After experiencing a rat infestation, this homeowner found that the insulation in their crawl space had been completely destroyed. They wanted to do a full cleanup of the damage and reached out to John's Waterproofing. We informed the homeowners that while we could do a cleanup of their crawl space, a full encapsulation would be the best solution in preventing the same situation from happening again. The homeowners agreed and we got to work. To begin, we needed to remove the damaged insulation and vapor barrier. They were covered in droppings and tears due to years of rodent activity. Because there was no preexisting water damage to indicate intrusion, we opted to install a SmartDrain which can catch and collect water that tries to enter and safely sends it away from the homes foundation in the instance of rain or leaks. We then installed TerraBlock insulation foam to the crawl space floors. This helps to seal the earth off from the home and help to regulate the environment. This insulation foam also creates a barrier that is waterproof. On top of the TerraBlock, a new CleanSpace vapor barrier gets installed. This is a 20 mil thick liner that is made with woven fibers that deters critters from chewing through the material. It is backed by a 25 year warranty against rips and tears that help to keep water out. To further control the environment, we installed a SaniDry dehumidifier that pulls out moisture and particles to promote healthier air quality in the living spaces. Spray Foam will then be applied to the foundation walls as a final air sealant and insulator. Once this full encapsulation process is completed, the homeowner feels safer in their home knowing that their crawl space will keep it dry and healthy.
