Crawl Space Repair Photo Album: Mold in Crawl Space Affecting the Home- Salem, OR

This homeowner was noticing a musty smell in their home, increased allergy symptoms and a part of their floor was sagging. When a crawl space is damp, it creates the perfect environment for mold and mildew to thrive. Mold can cause serious health issues and it affects the air quality in the entire home. They decided to reach out to John's Waterproofing Company to get the job done. We sent out one of our system design specialists to perform a free inspection and estimate. The design specialist and the homeowner then met to discuss the findings and the solution. To begin this project, we remove all the debris including the damaged vapor barrier and old fiberglass insulation. Next, we treat the mold with our MoldX2 which is our highly effective cleaner for contaminated surfaces. After, we install our steel beam under the joists where the floor was sagging, to provide support. Our SmartJack system is next. They are our high capacity supplemental steel piers designed to stop settling and will raise back up and stabilize the home. We then dig a trench around the interior perimeter of the crawl space to lay down a perforated pipe into a silt sock to secure a safe passage to the TripleSafe sump pump at the lowest point. A discharge line is placed outside of the home to drain water away from the foundation. We install our TerraBlock system directly on the dirt floor of the crawl space creating an insulated barrier between the home and the earth. On top of the TerraBlock, we install our CleanSpace system, this goes along the floor and up the foundation walls to the rim joists and is sealed with our waterproof tape. All the vents in the crawl space are covered to prevent outside air from entering the space. To control the environment, we install our SaniDry Sedona. This effective dehumidifier will eliminate damp musty odors by drying and filtering the air and prevent moisture to prevent mold from returning, while promoting healthy air throughout the entire home. Lastly to finish this project we spray our foam insulation to ensure a full air tight seal in this crawl space to prevent any water and pest or rodent intrusion for years to come.
