Crawl Space Repair Photo Album: Pipe Pump and Plastic in Wilsonville, OR
Fiberglass in the crawl space can lead to some nasty issues. It absorbs the moisture out of the air, and that water weight will pull it away from the sub-floor, decreasing its insulation value quickly. It than holds that moisture against the underside of the home, and this just leads to issues like mildew, mold, and rot. To get this homes space back to be healthy we would need to remove the fiberglass. We than worked with the owners to find a repair plan that worked for their home and budget.
With the fiberglass and old vapor barrier removed we had to spot treat for mold along the sub-floor. Once addressed we than installed a drain system along the dirt floor. This involves digging a trench in the dirt, and laying in a perforated pipe within a silt sock. The water collects here and channels to the lowest point. At this spot, the water enters a TripleSafe sump pump and is directed away from the homes foundation to a LawnScape outlet. We than laid down a new 6 Mil vapor barrier, anchoring it to help it stay put as well as overlapping the edges.

Fiberglass Issues
The fiberglass insulation had water weight within it, causing it the droop and begin falling in ribbons
Clearing out the Fiberglass

Keeping the Vapor Barrier in Place
To help keep the vapor barrier from shifting out of place we anchored it into the crawl space
