Bring Crawl Space up to Code- Astoria, OR
Challenge
This home did not have adequate clearance in their crawl space, there for it was not up to code. Most building codes require a minimum vertical clearance between the ground and the floor joists. When a crawl space does not have proper clearance, it limits safe access into the crawl space for things like maintenance and repairs. The soil was too close to the crawl space ceiling and moisture starting to accumulate, so these homeowners reached out to John's Waterproofing for a solution.
Solution
Performing a dig out in a crawl space like this would not only bring it up to code, but it would allow for easier access for maintenance such as plumbing, HVAC, and structural repairs. It will also help with moisture control which will reduce the risk of mold and mildew and will protect the homes foundation. Our system design specialist went out and performed a free inspection and estimate. He then met with the homeowner to go over the estimate and when hearing the benefits of a dig out, they decided to move forward with the project. Our team then dug out the space, and removed a total of 9 cubic yards of dirt. After, they installed our 6 mil vapor barrier which will help with regulating moisture and protect the crawl space. This homeowner can have peace of mind knowing it is dry, accessible and structurally sound reducing the risk of costly repairs.
