From Musty and Humid to Dry and Healthy- Canby, OR
Challenge
This homeowner was smelling a musty odor for a few months and noticed it got stronger during the rainy season. They went down to check their crawl space and noticed it was in rough shape and they wanted to find a permanent solution to create a healthier home for their family, so they called us up and we sent out one of our knowledgeable system design specialists to perform a free inspection and estimate.
Solution
When our design specialist was through with the inspection he met with the homeowners and went over the findings and the plan to turn this musty and humid crawl space into a dry and healthy one. Once they heard the benefits of a full encapsulation, they went ahead and scheduled their project. We begin by removing all of the debris, fiberglass insulation, and old 6 Mil vapor barrier. Next, we dig a trench around the interior perimeter of the crawl space in which we lay down a 3 inch perforated pipe into a silt sock to create a secure passage to the lowest point. At this low point we then install our SuperSump Plus. This will collect all of the water and pump it outside and away from the home through a discharge line. After, we install our TerraBlock system directly onto the dirt floor to create an insulated barrier, separating the home and the earth and blocking any moisture from making its way up through the ground. On top of the TerraBlock, on the foundation walls to the rim joists we then install our CleanSpace system. This 20 mil thick liner will not only protect the home from water intrusion and pests and rodents, but the white finish will really brighten the space making it easy for the homeowner to see it is free of mold, debris and unwanted visitors. Then, we make sure all of the vents are covered to prevent outside air from entering. To keep the environment controlled, we install our SaniDry Sedona which will effectively eliminate damp and musty odors and will keep the home at a healthy relative humidity. Lastly, to finish this encapsulation, we install our foam insulation. This is carefully sprayed along the foundation walls up to the rim joists ensuring the space has an airtight seal. Unlike traditional fiberglass insulation, our spray foam guarantees protection and will last the life of the home. Now that their crawl space is free of musty odors and kept at a healthy relative humidity, this homeowner can enjoy their new healthy home with peace of mind.
