Importance of Maintaining Sump Pumps- Eugene, OR
Challenge
We have been working with these homeowner over the years and began a multi-step project in order to work within their budget while addressing their issues. We were first called out to this property years ago due to a major issue with high levels of water that were flooding this homes yard. They had installed an outdoor pump in hopes of mitigating the problem, but they were not keeping up with the maintenance of the pump over the years, which then lead to the pump not being powerful enough to keep up with the amount of water volume and kept failing, leading to flooding and a lot of stress. Without proper annual maintenance, pumps are going to fail, and cause further issues.
Solution
To work within their budget at the time, we started by upgrading the system that they had in place by replacing the old pump that was failing in the outside culvert with our M83 pump and began annual maintenance. We then went over the importance of maintaining a sump system to keep it from clogging, slowing down and causing system failures. During one of their annual maintenance visits, our service technician inspected this homeowners unprotected crawl space and noticed it was very filthy and full of debris and there was evidence that it had flooded on several occasions. This caused musty and damp odors to enter the home. We created an estimate to properly address this issue and the homeowner wanted to move forward. We installed a pipe pump plastic which includes us removing all of the debris and digging a trench around the interior perimeter of the crawl space to then place a 3 inch perforated pipe into a silt sock which will allow water to drain to the lowest point, where we install our TripleSafe sump pump that will gather all of the water that enters and will pump it out through a discharge line. Outside we also install our LawnScape Outlet that is a grated drain that will keep debris out of the discharge line. The homeowner also wanted exterior access into the crawl space so we install our EverLast Door along with the EverLast access well. We then install our 6 mil thick vapor barrier to help block moisture in the space. Since these homeowners were wanting to stay within their budget, installing this partial waterproofing system was the right choice for them. Now, down the line when they're ready for a full encapsulation, the transition will be smooth.
