Concrete walls are naturally porous so they tend to act as hard sponges. Absorbing moisture from the surrounding soil and leading to high levels of indoor humidity. This can cause issues with mold, efflorescence and structural damage. The paint on the concrete walls in this basement were peeling and cold to the touch which was also an indication of moisture intrusion. These homeowners reached out and set up their free visit. we went out and thoroughly inspected this basement and came up with our best options for these homeowners so this basement could transform into a dry, stable and healthy space.
We began by creating a trench around the interior perimeter of this basement using a jack hammer, in the trench we add clean gravel rock and our WaterGuard drainage system on top to collect water from the walls and groundwater and direct it to the lowest point. Then this system gets concreted over, level with the floor. At the low point we install our SuperSump Plus to gather the water that enters and pump it outside of the home, away from the foundation. This home had several below below grade windows, for each, we install a WellDuct to direct water from the window well inside into the perimeter drainage system. On the porous concrete walls, we install our BrightWall system which will also help guide any moisture down into the WaterGuard system while providing a semi-finished look for this basement. The final piece was the dehumidifier which helps the space maintain healthy air, removing the excess moisture. Now, with this system in place these homeowners can have peace of mind.
