This crawl space had high levels of humidity due to open vents letting in both water and outside air. These homeowners had seen a rise in their energy bills and wanted to find a solution that will help keep the home stable and lower their energy bills. Damp air takes more energy to cool in the summer and heat in the winter, so taking back control of their crawl space, would lead to savings! They reached out to John's and set up their free visit, and we inspected this crawl space to come up with the right solutions to properly address these issues.
We began this project by removing all of the debris, fiberglass insulation and old vapor barrier. There was an existing sump and drainage system that was in poor condition, so we replaced the pump with our SuperSump Plus, and replaced the old drainage with a new system. We then make sure all of the vents get covered and sealed to prevent outside air from entering. We install our TerraBlock system, which is designed to be installed on dirt floors to create an insulated barrier between the home and the earth that will help prevent moisture from makings its way up. We then install our CleanSpace system, which is our 20 mil thick liner that is placed on top of the TerraBlock, between each footing and wooden post, as well as anchored into the foundation walls. To keep the environment controlled, we installed our SaniDry Sedona which is our effective dehumidifier that will eliminate damp and musty odors by drying and filtering the air and keeps the home at a healthy relative humidity. Lastly, we install our foam insulation. This type of insulation is sprayed onto the foundation walls up to the rim joists and it expands, filling in every crack and void, increasing effectiveness and performance which improves air sealing and energy efficiency. This homeowners crawl space is now fully encapsulated and will keep a healthy relative humidity as well as lower their energy bills.
