Importance of Waterproofing Your Basement Before Finishing- Saint Paul, OR
Challenge
Most homeowners don't know that waterproofing is a crucial step in providing a dry, healthy finished basement. Not waterproofing your basement can cause detrimental effects on your property, such as structural damage and weakening of the foundation which can lead to costly repairs. Allowing water to permeate through porous concrete can create an inviting environment for mold and mildew and compromises air quality causing potential health risks for you and your family. John's Waterproofing has been keeping basements dry and healthy for over 50 years.
Solution
One of our system design specialists went out to give a free estimate and inspection and went over solutions with the homeowner. The first step in starting this project is installing our WaterGuard drainage system. We do this by using a jack hammer to dig a trench around the interior perimeter of the basement, this system is put in place to drain the water to the SuperSump pump. It is then shingled into our ThermalDry Wall System to make sure water securely flows from the walls to the drainage system. ThermalDry can be installed on any surface. It is a flexible poly covering comprised of a bubble-wrap-style backing and an energy efficient reflective foil on the front. This combination creates insulating air spaces next to the foundation wall, while the foil-face reflects heat back into the living space. A TrenchDrain is installed at the entrance of the basement door, this is connected to the WaterGuard and will help direct any water to the WaterGuard. It is shingled into our ThermalDry. We also installed a FloodRing which goes at the base of the water heater to prevent water leakage. Now this space is ready to finish and this customer can be sure that this basement is protected from water and will remain dry and healthy.
