Saving This Water Damaged Basement - Portland, OR
Challenge
After years of water constantly seeping through these basement walls, this homeowner decided it was time to find a solution. They reached out to John's Waterproofing and explained how they haven't been able to use their basement the way they want to because water is always coming inside. We informed the homeowners that this could be solved using our basement waterproofing system. The homeowner agreed to the system and we got to work.
Solution
When water seeps through the basement walls, this can cause significant damage to the home. It can impact the structural integrity and increase exposure to mold or mildew. In order to stop the water from having access into the basement, the first step is to install a proper drainage system. This ensures there is control over where the water is going and offers a safe passageway to exit without causing more damage. Our drainage system involves installing WaterGuard along the interior perimeter of the basement. We jackhammer a trench for the WaterGuard to sit in at the footing of the basement. Once it is installed, we line it with gravel to help easily filter the water through and avoid clogging. It is also covered over top with concrete to offer a discreet, yet effective, system for the homeowner. The purpose of this drainage pipe is to be able to collect any water that tries to enter, whether its rising groundwater or leaking in through the walls, and safely sends it to a TripleSafe sump pump. This sump pump is capable of controlling several gallons of water at a time and can securely push it out of the basement and away from the homes foundation through a discharge line. With these two systems working together to control the passage of water, then the basement can stay dry. In order to add protection to the basement walls, we installed BrightWall. This is a white paneling that offers homeowners a semi-finished look. It is made of materials that won't rot or grow mold so that it can safely help pass water from the walls down below to the drainage system to be sent out. With a proper drainage system and protected basement walls, this homeowner now gets to enjoy having a dry and healthy basement again.
