Waterproofing Before Finishing the Basement - Bend, OR
Challenge
In search of a basement finishing contractor that can also waterproof, this homeowner began their next big project for upgrading their basement. They wanted to be able to finish the basement walls with new sheetrock, but wanted to make sure the space could remain dry and healthy before doing so. In the past, this homeowner noticed some areas where water would seep through and didn't want the same problem happening once the new walls were done. They decided to reach out to John's Waterproofing about our waterproofing systems and our basement finishing contractors.
Solution
Upgrading your basement can be a fun and exciting home improvement project. First, making sure that it will remain dry and healthy is important. To do so, we install a full basement waterproofing system using a WaterGuard drainage pipe. A trench gets jackhammered along the interior perimeter of the basement for the WaterGuard to be installed into. This way it sits at the footing and is lined with gravel for easy water filtration. The pipe has holes on the back that allow it to collect water seeping in through the basement walls or rising groundwater. The WaterGuard connects to a SuperSump Plus sump pump which can take all the collected water and safely push it out of the basement and away from the homes foundation. With these two constantly working together to pump water out, then the basement is capable of staying dry all year round. Because the basement walls are going to be finished, we wanted to add some moisture protection to them. This is done by installing ThermalDry to the walls. This is a heat and vapor barrier that helps to guide moisture down below to the drainage system to be pushed out. It is anchored to the walls and sealed with thick waterproof tape to ensure nothing can get through it. To keep the space healthy against moisture based issues we also installed a SaniDry Dehumidifier. With this waterproofing system completed, our finishing department will be able to go out to the home and ad sheetrock walls. This will allow it to be a usable and finished space for the homeowner to use however they desire.
