Protecting a Basement from Moisture- Portland, OR
Challenge
These homeowners were experiencing water intrusion through their foundation and it was causing a lot of moisture and cracks on one of the walls in their finished basement. Since this was a living space for the family, they were concerned that the moisture and humidity could cause issues such as mold and mildew, structural issues, and even damage to their personal belongings, so they reached out to John's in hopes of finding a permanent solution.
Solution
Once our system design specialist finished with the free inspection and estimate, he met with the homeowners to go over the best option to make this space dry and healthy again. We begin by demoing the whole wall where the moisture was coming in. We then use a jackhammer to dig a trench around the interior perimeter, to install a clean bed of gravel and our WaterGuard drainage system on top. It is then seamlessly concreted over creating a discreet look. This system will collect water from the walls as well as groundwater and safely channel it to the lowest point of the basement to the SuperSump Plus. This is connected to a discharge line outside to drain the water away from the homes foundation. After, we install our ThermalDry system behind the framing, on the concrete wall so it is protected from any moisture that may enter and will help insulate the wall. To keep the environment at a healthy relative humidity, we install our SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier which will also eliminate musty smells by keeping the air dry and filtered. Our finishing team then installs our paint ready sheetrock walls, and baseboard molding to finish the space and get it back to being a livable space. These homeowners can now have peace of mind that their basement is protected from water intrusion.
