Basement Waterproofing Photo Album: 1,000 Gallons of Water Damage in the Basement - Portland, OR
Water was constantly coming into this homeowner's basement. Over time, it had accumulated over 1,000 gallons worth of water damage due to heavy rain and unprotected walls. Now, wanting to actually use the space, the homeowner reached out to John's Waterproofing for a massive basement waterproofing project. We first had to remove all the debris that the years worth of damage caused. Once it was cleared out, then we installed a drainage system so that this passage of water wouldn't continue entering the space. This is done by jackhammering a trench along the interior perimeter of the basement and installing WaterGuard. This is a drainage pipe that sits at the footing of the basement and collects water seeping through from the ground or the walls. It provides a safe passageway to flow through instead of entering the basement and puddling. We make sure to line the trench with gravel so that water will be able to easily filter through and avoid getting clogged. The system gets covered over top with concrete so it offers a discreet look that will still keep the water out. WaterGuard connects to a TripleSafe sump pump which takes all the collected water and can securely push it out and away from the homes foundation. This three-pump system is capable of controlling thousands of gallons of water and even has a backup battery-operated pump in case of a power outage. This way the basement will be able to remain dry no matter the situation. We then applied a CleanSpace wall system to the foundation walls. This is a 20 mil vapor barrier made with woven fibers that keep water from being able to seep through. It is backed by a 25 year warranty against rips and tears. After this waterproofing system is installed, their basement is ready to face another rainy season without the threat of water intrusion.
Destroyed Basement From Water Damage.
After years of water seeping into the basement, the walls and floors had been completely destroyed and made the space unusable.
Discoloration on Basement Walls.
The discoloration on the basement walls are indicators where water would seep through and leave sediment on the walls.
Jackhammering the Trench.
In order for the drainage system to be installed at the footing of the basement, a trench has to be jackhammered along the interior perimeter.
WaterGuard and CleanSpace.
After the WaterGuard drainage pipe gets installed, it is covered over top with concrete. CleanSpace is the white vapor barrier along the walls that protect from future water intrusion.
TripleSafe Keeping Basement Dry.
The TripleSafe is one of the most important steps of basement waterproofing because it constantly works to push water out of the basement and away from the home's foundation to keep it dry and healthy.
