Basement Waterproofing Photo Album: Water Seeping Through Basement Walls - Portland, OR
Keeping your basement dry is important. It helps maintain the health of your home and allows for more space for the occupants to use. But what happens when water continues to seep in through the walls? This homeowner had to find out after their basement was flooding every time there was heavy rainfall. Fortunately, they knew just the people to call and reached out to John's Waterproofing for a solution. They agreed that a full basement waterproofing system would be necessary in order to keep their basement dry during another rainstorm. To begin, we first had to install a drainage system so that the water seeping through could be controlled. We jackhammer a trench along the interior perimeter of the basement to install a WaterGuard drainage pipe. This sits at the footing of the basement to collect the water seeping through the walls. It offers a safe passageway for the water to be sent to a TripleSafe sump pump. This three pump system is capable of taking all that collected water and securely pumps it out and away from the homes foundation. It is even equipped with a backup battery-operated pump so in the instance of a power outage the basement will stay dry. Afterwards, the drainage system is completely covered with concrete and a wall system is installed. In this situation, because the walls were where the water was seeping through, we wanted to install the CleanSpace wall vapor barrier. This is a 20 mil thick liner made with woven fibers that help prevent water from seeping through. It is sealed with 4 inch thick waterproof tape and is backed by a 25 year warranty against rips and tears. The CleanSpace helps act as a guide for water to be sent down below to the drainage system and be pumped out. A SaniDry XP dehumidifier was also installed to promote better air quality in the home by pulling excess moisture out of the air. Now, this homeowner gets to once again use their basement even during the heaviest of rainfalls.
